Photographer of the month - Olivia Bossert

Well, June is here already! Is it just us or is this year flying by?! The busiest time of year for Photographers is now fully upon us, but it's always good to remember to take days off and take some time to relax, otherwise it will most definitely lead to burning out! Why not take a moment now to make yourself a cup of tea, take a break from the editing and read this months Photographer of the months interview with fashion Photographer Olivia Bossert...

What kind of photography do you do?

I work in fashion and lifestyle photography mainly. I studied fashion photography at uni, so it's always been my first love!

How long have you been doing photography?

I started when I was 15 (so almost 11 years!) but professionally, its been 3 years.

Best experience shoot photography?

I think my best experience has been meeting the teams that I work with, having fun, and creating amazing images. I can't give you one shoot that I've loved more than the others, because they're all amazing and lovely in some way!

Looking back, What advice would you give yourself when starting out in photography?

Just keep shooting. I know thats so cliche, but its the truth. The only way to "get good" is to shoot loads. All the time! And keep researching, learning, observing, trying new things. I'd also maybe nudge myself to read a few business books earlier - people dont' tell you how much being a photography involves actual business!

What’s your favourite Tog product and why?

The Mini Tog Bag! I bought myself one last year, and I adore how cute it is. I hate having to use camera backpacks that are so obviously camera backpacks. It feels like I'm asking to be mugged! The tog bag looks like any old stylish backpack. I'm shocked by how much I can fit into it as well. I definitely need the big version next, though.

What’s your favourite lens and why?

Oh gosh, I just got myself a secondhand 85mm 1.4 and I'm in love. I've wanted that lens for a really long time, and I finally got it. I also love my 24-70mm 2.8 because it's so versatile. If I'm on a client shoot thats fast paced, that lens is my go to.

Which cameras do you have?

I shoot on a Nikon D750 at the moment, and have a Nikon D800 as a back up.

Do you prefer working with natural light or studio?

Both! I'm having a real moment with naturally lit studio work though.

Which photographers inspire you?

Paolo Roversi, Patrick Demarchelier, Julia Margaret Cameron, Betina Du Toit. They're all so good!

Where can we find your work?

You can read my blog at here and see my portfolios there too. You can also follow me on Instagram- I share a lot of behind the scenes and tips and tricks there!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Doing more of what I'm doing now, but with bigger clients. I'm honestly so happy, so if things just continue to progress as they are, I'll be a happy woman. 🙂
